Dogs Need to be taught how they need to walk with the leash tied with their body. Naturally, Dogs are used to be walking free but since they have been domesticated now, their owners need to Teach them the way of walking along with the leash.
Dogs sniff and urinate on the bushes or car tyres to mark their territory. Your Dog must be making your life too difficult during walks as he must be pulling the leash and making you run after him.
That's the incorrect way of leash training. You need to teach your dog never to pull the leash and in order to teach him that, you need to stop pulling the leash and never allow him to pull.
Always be within his range and don't allow him to pressurize you.
To start, let me tell you that Leash Training demands hard work and patience. Dont expect you dog to stop pulling the leash in a couple of days.
Dogs, just like humans, takes time to learn new things and understand them.
Here are some Guidelines to Look for Leash Training:
- Till the time your dog stops pulling the leash, consider all the walks outside with your dog as training session and keep the training sessions small and fun.
- Take your dog out for walk after he is a little tired. You can play with him at home for about 20 minutes to tire him up. Once he gets tired, take him out for the walk and this time he will not pull the leash as strongly as he used to.
- Dogs pull the leash as they are excited to explore and they have a lot of energy in them. If you tire your dog at first, he will not have the same amount of energy.
- Use Treats to Reward the good work of your Dog. When your dog doesn't pull the Leash, Reward him with some treats such as wieners or cooked chicken.
- Walk at a Quick pace. I know not everyone can do that as some dog owners are senior citizens as well but you can always try. This way your dog will get less oppurtunities.
- Make sure you dog doesn't like Pulling the leash as many times dog finds its mischievous to pull the leash to make his owner run after him. They have fun with you
- If you dog gets too excited when he gets to know that you are taking him out, wait for him to get relaxed a bit. Its very important that your dog is not too excited and full of energy before moving out as you will face more challenges if he is not tired or calm.
I hope these points would help you Train your dog in a better way not to pull the Leash while walking. Thanks.
